Privacy Policy

1. Who this is for

Honest Hockey is an off-ice training app that coaches run for their teams. It's used by coaches, athletes (with parental consent for minors), parents/guardians, and the team staff a head coach chooses to add — an assistant coach, goalie coach, trainer or team manager. We built it to be a positive, private space for young athletes.

2. What we collect

• Athlete: first name + last initial, birth year, hockey level and position, and the training data they enter (reps, run minutes, shots, streaks).
• Parent/guardian: name and email, and a record of consent.
• Coach/team: name, team name, logo, and the goals they set.
• Technical: basic security and operational logs needed to run the service.

We practice data minimization — if we don't need it to run the tracker or send a parent's summary, we don't collect it.

3. What we do with it

• Run the training tracker and show each athlete their own progress.
• Send reminders and a weekly summary to the parent, and coach-set team goals to athletes.
• Keep the service secure and working.

We do not use the data for advertising, profiling, or training AI models.

4. What we never do

• We never sell personal information.
• We never share an athlete's or family's personal information with third parties for advertising or any purpose outside running Honest Hockey.
• We don't embed third-party advertising or tracking tools in any part of the app a minor uses.
• Sponsors (e.g., a local rink or pro shop) may appear only as a logo image on the team screen. Sponsors receive no information about any player or family.

5. Children's privacy & parental consent

• For minors, we collect only a parent/guardian's email until that parent provides verifiable consent. No other information about the child is stored before approval.
• Parents can review the information we hold about their child, refuse further collection, and request deletion at any time.
• Reminders and the weekly summary go to the parent — we don't send "you missed a workout" nags to a child.

6. How long we keep data

We keep personal information only while the account is active. When you delete an account we begin deleting its personal information immediately, and it is removed from our systems promptly thereafter. Team data is deleted once the team is no longer in use, unless we're legally required to keep it longer. If you want to know exactly what we hold for an account, email privacy@gethonesthockey.com and we will tell you.

7. Your choices and rights

At any time you can see, correct, download, and delete the account and its data — from the dashboard or by emailing privacy@gethonesthockey.com.

8. Region-specific terms

We apply the same strict data practices everywhere, but your legal rights differ by location.

United States (COPPA)

We do not knowingly collect personal information from a child under 13 without verifiable parental consent. Parents may review their child's information, direct us to stop collecting it, and request its deletion by contacting us.

Canada — outside Québec (PIPEDA)

We handle personal information under PIPEDA, with meaningful consent and for the purposes described here. You may request access and correction, and may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Canada — Québec (Law 25)

For minors under 14, consent is provided by the parent or guardian. You have rights of access, correction, deletion, and data portability. We disclose where data is hosted and have assessed any transfer outside Québec. Complaints may be made to the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec.

9. Security, and who can see what

We protect data with encryption in transit and at rest, and role-based access controls, so each person sees only what their role needs:

• An athlete — their own training data.
• A parent or guardian — their own child's data and the messages between their child and the head coach. Never another family's.
• The head coach — their own team. The head coach is the only person who can message athletes and parents.
• Team staff — an assistant coach, goalie coach, trainer or team manager that the head coach has added. They get a read-only view of that one team's roster and training progress. They cannot change anything, they cannot message anyone, and they do not see private messages.

A head coach adds and removes team staff themselves, and every staff invitation and removal is recorded in an audit log.

10. Changes

If we change this policy materially, we'll notify the account holder and, where required, re-obtain parental consent.
